A Hymn on the Nativity of Our Lord
I sing of His nativity,
Who came our Paschal Lamb to be,
And Who His very life did give
That Adam's seed might ever live.
The Father's will did He obey,
And quit the courts of endless day.
And sheltered in the Virgin's womb,
He did our mortal state assume.
The angel host proclaimed His birth
And peace to faithful souls on earth.
They to the shepherds did appear,
Who did their gladsome tidings hear.
The One who had the heavens made
Was in a humble manager laid,
And Him whose laws the planets keep,
A lullaby did lull to sleep.
The Lord of all to earth came down,
Yet few did know of His renown.
The promised heir to David's throne
Was but a stranger to His own.
What boundless, wondrous love was His
That He should leave the realm of bliss
His wayward children so to save,
And rescue from the hungry grave!
And so, as did those shepherds bring
Their homage to the Infant King,
Now let us hasten to adore
Our Lord, who reigns for evermore!
I hope this helps evoke the spirit of Christmas for you my readers. Merry Christmas!
