O Hark! The Angels' Song on High
O hark! The angels' song on high,
As Heaven's joy to earth draws nigh.
Their praise to God Most High they sing,
As wondrous news to all they bring.
For He is born in Bethlehem
Who is both Jesse's Root and Stem,
The One through Isaac's Ram foretold,
His coming known by seers of old.
The One whom did the stars obey,
Now helpless lies upon the hay.
Before Him bowed the cherubim;
Now lowly shepherds worship Him.
Oh, with that bright angelic throng,
We all might join in joyous song!
For He the Rising Sun shall be,
From Whom shall Death's dark shadows flee.
